Characteristic
Zisha teapots are traditional Chinese teapots, said to have originated between the Song Dynasty and the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty. They are made from Yixing Zisha clay, a sedimentary rock composed of layered minerals, including scaly Zisha, Benshan green clay, white clay, yellow clay, and red clay. Because it originates from Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, Zisha teapots are also known as Yixing Zisha teapots. The unique double-porous structure of Zisha clay and the kiln firing process (reduction firing) allow the teapot to fully aerate, activating and improving water quality, thus altering the aroma and flavor of tea. Therefore, tea brewed in a Zisha teapot has a richer, more mellow aroma and a longer aftertaste.

Yixing purple clay teapots belong to the realm of literati art, and their pursuit of simplicity and elegance embodies the refined taste of ancient literati. Like Chinese literati painting, Yixing purple clay teapots integrate various art forms such as poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving. Appreciating Yixing purple clay teapots from the perspective of literati art reveals another facet of literati painting. Yixing purple clay teapots are also highly sought-after treasures by collectors.
