Characteristic
"Dian Cui," also known as "Inlaid Cui" or "Tie Cui," is a traditional Chinese high-end metalwork and feather ornamentation technique. Its core principle is to utilize the natural blue-green luster of kingfisher feathers, inlaid onto a metal base, creating a dazzling blue decoration resembling a gemstone. It reached its peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties, becoming a key element in imperial jewellery, including crowns, hairpins, earrings, and step-shake ornaments for empresses and concubines. In this set, the hairpin is an antique, while the earrings are redesigned by designer Tong Yufen, who inlaid a piece of dian Cui from her early collection with tourmaline and karat gold.
