Traditional Chinese Medicine Diplomacy Scores Again: Rotary International Donates AHCHOO Spray to Help India Fight Epidemics

India is one of the countries most severely affected by COVID-19, with over 30 million confirmed cases and nearly 390,000 deaths to date. Recently, the highly contagious Delta variant, first identified in India, has caused a resurgence of the epidemic after a period of gradual improvement.

Rotary District 3521 and Taipei Shixian Rotary Club launched the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Epidemic Prevention International Medical Aid” campaign. With the support of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Legislator Wen Yuxia’s Office, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), and the Taiwan Business Association in Mumbai, they donated the internationally acclaimed Taiwanese Chinese patent medicine, AHCHOO Spray, to hospitals in India fighting the pandemic on June 25. This allows local medical staff to utilize traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to aid patients.

Mr. Xu Wuqing, President of China Medical Herald, stated that TCM is a profound and extensive field. When used correctly, it demonstrates remarkable effects in epidemic prevention, disease treatment, and daily health maintenance. He emphasized that the campaign by Rotary District 3521 and Taipei Shixian Rotary Club is highly meaningful—not only does it provide practical support to India’s healthcare system by enhancing COVID-19 prevention and treatment capabilities, but it also establishes Taiwan’s outstanding TCM as a powerful tool for international medical humanitarian aid.

Ms. Geng Shuxian, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Meditalent Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd., shared that internationally, TCM is often misunderstood as unscientific, slow-acting, and inconvenient, mostly associated with general health tonics. Due to many historical reasons, TCM has not been correctly recognized or applied, which is unfortunate. Ms. Geng added that since the 1990s, Meditalent has actively engaged in modernizing natural medicines and is currently developing more classic Chinese herbal formulas to provide effective, safe, convenient, and modern TCM products—helping the world truly experience the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine and gain international recognition for its value in benefiting global health.
