Supercritical co2 Extraction of Agarwood essential oil

Step 1. Grinding

Extraction process begins with grinding agarwood chips into fine powder.

Step 2. CO2 extraction

Powders then subject into CAREDDI supercritical CO2 extraction equipment. Carbon dioxide, under specific temperature and pressure conditions, acts as an excellent solvent. It can penetrate agarwood powder, selectively dissolve the valuable aromatic compounds, and form agarwood oleoresin/paste. This extraction method is carried out at relatively low temperatures, which helps to preserve delicate components of agarwood, ensuring high quality extract.

Step 3. Heating  

After obtaining the agarwood oleoresin, next step is to heat it gently. This heating process transforms oleoresin into flowing liquid state, making it suitable for subsequent short path distillation process.

Step 4. Distillation

Short path distillation is highly precise separation technique. When the liquid agarwood oleoresin enters short path distillation system, it is separated into two main components: light components and heavy components. The light components mainly contain the precious agarwood oil, which is the essence we aim to obtain. The heavy components may contain other substances such as waxes and resins.

Supercritical CO2 extraction method offers numerous advantages. Compared with traditional extraction methods like steam distillation, it can operate at lower temperatures, reducing risk of thermal degradation of active ingredients in agarwood. This results in higher purity agarwood product ,with more complete preservation of original aroma and chemical composition.
